Entrepreneurship
- Silver Level Experience -
During the spring of 2018, I took ENME AutoCAD 204, as a design class with emphasis on entrepreneurship. The course involved the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills, instruction about entrepreneurship in engineering (design specifications, design analysis, performance predictions, design, changes, final design and operation specifications), and working with a team to complete a Rube Goldberg design project. The practice of writing design reports and giving oral presentations on the work that was done, was emphasized as well. A budget and project timeline were created to ensure progress.

During the spring of 2020, I took Economics 101. This class exposed me to basic economics involved with entrepreneurship. The skills and knowledge I took from the class have improved my entrepreneurial thinking.
Program Wide Learning objective met: Flexibility
Flexibility was a major objective witnessed in the entrepreneurship experience of ENME 204. For the sake of the group, it was important to be flexible in helping however possible with the goal that everyone could succeed in the end. Our time to work with each other was flexible and we bounced ideas of each other well. The more flexible we were, the stronger we were as a group.
Entrepreneurship Core Learning Objectives
Develop strategies for recognizing opportunities and identifying the tools for quality risk assessment
I will be able to see failures as opportunities, similar to how sticky notes were created from a design failure for an adhesive.
Exhibit skills for communicating ideas in a concise and logical way.
Presenting ideas concisely will lead to consumers being more interested in the goods provided.
Work effectively in teams focused on entrepreneurship-related projects.
Teamwork is the key to the success of the whole because no one can do everything by themselves.
Apply entrepreneurial thinking to social issues and social problems.
Applying entrepreneurial thinking to social life can lead to more wholesome communities. People who feel left out and discouraged can be invested in and pushed to maximize their potential as citizens in society.
In Economics 101, I learned that in any market, there are a barriers to entry that have to be overcome such as a product being built to code, and a company following government policy in that given market. For example, if an entrepreneur wanted to join a local civil engineering market with start-up construction firm, the entrepreneur would need to have enough capital to get the purchase an office location, hire employees and get a company license confirmed by local government.
If I were to get involved in an enterprise in the future, I would need to do a significant amount of market research. The success of a business is highly dependent on quality market research.
