Reflections

Responsibility of a Researcher:
When doing research, it is important to do it ethically. The needs and safety of the people should always come first. Any risks that are taken in the name of research requires the consent of the test subjects. Organized note-taking is also essential so scientific ideas can be easily communicated.
Research is hard and failure occurs often. The important thing when this occurs however is to analyze what has happened and look for ways to improve. Eventually breakthroughs will be made.

Qualities involved in effective teamwork:
To be effective in a team setting, it is important to identify people’s strengths and optimize them for the sake of the team task. Constructive criticism also sparks productivity.

Creativity and Innovation:
I often have my creative bursts through music composition. In every beat, lyric or melody, there is reasoning, intention and often improvisation. Creativity and innovation in academia or industry works in a similar way. Reasoning and intention guide design processes, but the will to improvise and try new methods is what helps bring forth revolutionary ideas.

Implicit bias.jpg

Effects of Implicit Bias on my work:
Implicit bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. Personally I’ve seen that bias can be helpful in displaying the perspective of a researcher and understanding how they view things. In a negative way, biases can prevent us from opening up to other people’s perspectives and learning things that are beneficial to solving a team problem. By understanding a person’s biases, you have a window into understanding why they do what they do.
